Joseph Herrera announces feature-length directorial debut with “Dark Distortion”
Rounding out the cast are: April Hartman (Silhouette), Joe Walker (Breaking the Loop), and Lily Lurid (Critters: All You Can Eat). In addition to writing and directing Herrera will also be acting in the film as the character Manny, a drug addict and manager of a content house. Fellow horror icon and Dallas resident Israel Luna is joining the project as a consultant.
The plot follows as “A group of popular adult models posing as escorts who rob clients that book them through their fan sites. When cocaine addict and pimp Manny cannot pay back his debt, his roster becomes collateral for an imposing rival. When the wrong house is targeted, a camcorder is taken by one of the thieves. Unbeknownst to them the camcorder possesses the spirit of a young murdered child who begins wreaking havoc on the group.”
Dark Distortion will be produced by Joseph’s production company Under Control Productions in conjunction with filmmaker Martha Chupp’s company Embracearm. Martha is a frequent collaborator of Joseph’s and will also be featured in the film as the role of Peggy, a loudmouth mother who breaks up a fight between two influencers. Filming for Dark Distortion begins in Dallas, Texas on June 29th and is expected to wrap on July 18th. Distribution has already been secured. The expected release date is 2025.
